Did you know that you can experience some the best theatre the nation has to offer—right here on campus? For more than 60 years, Pioneer Theatre Company (located at the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre) has presented premier productions featuring artists direct from Broadway and national tours.
Patrons call PTC “the best theatre in the Salt Lake Valley” and “top notch; filled with fantastic talent!” If you haven’t yet experienced a PTC production, you aren’t only missing out on world class live theatre, but also an incredible benefit of working on campus. And with special pricing available exclusively to the University community, now is the perfect time to join Pioneer Theatre Company in its continued journey back to live theatre and human connection.
With an array of world and Utah premieres, PTC’s 22/23 season is filled with plays and musicals you won’t see anywhere else in Utah. Opening the season from September 16 through October 1 is an exciting adaptation of Scapin by Molière. Expect the unexpected in PTC’s production of a play already infamous for its intrigue and wit.
From October 28 through November 12, PTC will be home to the world premiere of a Broadway-bound musical, Shucked. With direction by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray), music and lyrics by country music stars Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, and a book by Tony Award winner Robert Horn (Tootsie), Shucked is sure to be the theatre event of the year.
Celebrate the holiday season with A Christmas Story, The Musical, based on the beloved 1983 film, from December 9 through 24. The acclaimed stage adaptation features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen) and was nominated for three Tony Awards.
And this is only the first half of the season! Check out PioneerTheatre.org for details about PTC’s full lineup of world and Utah premieres. Find out for yourself why Pioneer Theatre Company is the best theatre experience in Salt Lake City.
