Maricela Figueroa's photography goes beyond the aesthetic image: it is an inquiry into the intimate consistency of reality. Her camera objective manages to portray with unparalleled precision the unique moment, which only happens once, in which the whole is reflected. Her pictures cover all subjects, all the possibilities of photography. There are several thematic ranges amongst her works, from the impressive series of seascapes, in which the beauty of water, light, foam, and the mute mineral and animal inhabitants of the coast, arouse intense emotions in the face of the greatness of the elements.
The Mexican artist goes through her numerous and varied portraits of children from the countryside, the coast, and cities, in which her transparent spirit and avidity to explore life is always manifested, to the great frescoes of Mexican traditions: dances; patron saint festivities; daily life; markets; small-town gatherings; daily work; which allow us to sense so well the reality of our country without makeup.
In this exhibition, dedicated to the Afro-Mexican peoples of Guerrero and Oaxaca, we find a passionate ingredient. Maricela Figueroa, originally from Guerrero, but a traveler since her early years in a didactic wandering -encouraged by her family, who is also nomadic and eager for culture-discovered from a very young age a love for the Afro-Mestizo people of our fields and riverbanks, which has only deepened over the years.
