Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Utah

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.8 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Utah, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Utah residents paid $9,222 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $338 more than the $8,884 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 216.8 percent more than residents this year, or $29,215. Their price tag grew 3.9 percent from $28,127 in 2017-18.

About 61 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Utah residents. About 29 percent are residents of other states and 4 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 85 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,916 students received grants or scholarships totaling $22.8 million and 1,164 students took out student loans totaling more than $11.9 million.

Including all undergraduates (33,023), 14,346 students used grants or scholarships totaling $107.7 million, and 7,627 students took out $57.9 million in federal student loans.
