Senator Mike Lee of Utah has introduced new legislation aimed at assessing and auditing the use of federal electromagnetic spectrum. The proposed Government Spectrum Valuation Act mandates the federal government to estimate the value of spectrum currently allocated to various federal agencies. Additionally, a separate bill calls for an audit to determine which bands are utilized by specific agencies.
Senator Lee emphasized Congress's role in ensuring effective management of federal spectrum resources. "Congress has a clear responsibility to ensure that federal spectrum is being managed effectively and appropriately," he stated. He believes that by understanding the value and usage of these allocations, both Congress and the Trump Administration can identify valuable spectrum bands and manage them more efficiently.
The details of the Government Spectrum Valuation Act and the accompanying audit bill are available for public review.
