Today, the Senate unanimously approved legislation introduced by Representative Celeste Maloy to establish federal court locations in Monticello and Moab, Utah. This move is part of the JUDGES Act and aims to address challenges faced by Eastern Utah residents in fulfilling jury duties. The bill now awaits the President's signature.
Senator Mike Lee expressed his support for the legislation, stating: "This legislation represents a commonsense and cost-neutral improvement to our judicial system. By designating Monticello and Moab as statutory locations for court proceedings, we are making it easier for residents in Eastern Utah to fulfill their civic duty. I'm pleased to see the Senate pass this bill unanimously and look forward to seeing it signed into law."
The bill will permit federal judges in the District of Utah to select juries from Grand and San Juan counties specifically when trials occur in Eastern Utah.
