WASHINGTON – In response to the ongoing immigration issues at the southern border, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) has introduced the Validating that all Aliens have Legitimate Identification Documents (VALID) Act. The legislation aims to address the loopholes exploited by illegal immigrants using the CBP One Mobile App as their sole form of identification for air travel within the United States.
The VALID Act has garnered support from several senators and key figures in the security sector. Sen. Rick Scott expressed his concerns about the Biden administration's policies, stating that allowing illegal aliens to use the CBP One Mobile App for air travel is "unacceptable and dangerous." He emphasized the importance of keeping Americans safe through legislative measures.
Similarly, Sen. Roger Marshall criticized President Biden's open-border policies, highlighting the immediate national security threat posed by unchecked migration. Marshall stressed the need to address the exploitation of systems that allow illegal aliens to travel without proper vetting or identification.
Chad Wolf, former acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, commended the VALID Act as a crucial step in enhancing security measures. He pointed out the discrepancies in allowing illegal aliens to use unverified documents for air travel, stating that such practices undermine national security and public safety.
The VALID Act includes provisions that prohibit the TSA from accepting the CBP One Mobile App, along with other forms of identification, at security checkpoints. It also bans aircraft from foreign countries that recognize the CBP One Mobile App as valid identification from operating in U.S. airspace.
The introduction of the VALID Act signals a significant effort to close loopholes in identification processes and strengthen border security in response to the challenges posed by illegal immigration.
