Utes men’s tennis secures clean sweep against Montana State Bobcats

The University of Utah men’s tennis team defeated Montana State 7-0 on Saturday evening in Salt Lake City, closing out their nonconference schedule.

In doubles, Utah’s Emmett Potter and Simeon Terziev secured a 6-3 win over Eddie Biss and Camille Chantron at the No. 2 position. Dante Teramo and Balthazar Huss followed with another 6-3 victory against Andre Stewart and Yassin Elaroussy at No. 1 doubles, clinching the point for Utah. The match at No. 3 doubles was left unfinished, with Utah’s AJ Deem and Charles Frey trailing Oumar Diallo and David Ismanescu 4-5.

During singles play, Balthazar Huss won his match against Camille Chantron 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles to keep momentum for the Utes. Team captain Dante Teramo then added a straight-set win (6-1, 6-3) over Yassin Elaroussy at the top spot. Emmett Potter secured the overall victory by defeating Andre Stewart 6-4, 6-2 on court No. 2.

Lorenzo Esquici came back after dropping his first set to defeat David Ismanescu in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) at No. 4 singles. On court No. 3, Simeon Terziev prevailed over Oumar Diallo in a match decided by a third-set tiebreak (6-4, 3-6, 10-4). Charles Frey finished off the sweep with a comeback win against Eddie Biss on court No. 6 (5-7, 7-6(5), 10-7).

The team’s record now stands at four wins and nine losses for the season.

Utah will begin Big 12 conference play next week with two home matches: Oklahoma State on March 12 and Arizona on March 14. The Utes will then travel to Florida to face UCF on March 21.
