The Utah Utes women’s tennis team defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 4-3 after a comeback on Apr. 2 in Fort Worth, Texas. Utah, ranked No. 30 nationally, overcame a 3-1 deficit to secure the win over No. 22-ranked TCU.
This victory extends Utah’s season record to 15-5 and their Big 12 conference record to 8-2, marking their ninth consecutive win. The result is significant as it demonstrates Utah’s resilience and ability to close out matches against higher-ranked opponents.
In doubles play, TCU claimed the initial point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, while the match at No.1 between Utah’s Sara Akid and Emma Valletta and TCU’s Victo Gomez O’Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai was left unfinished with a score of four games each.
During singles competition, TCU won at position six before Utah’s Kaila Barksdale responded with a straight-set victory on court four. After another singles win by TCU at position five brought their lead to 3-1, Emmie Moore kept Utah alive by winning her match on court three.
The final two matches determined the outcome: Sara Akid rallied from losing her first set against Yu-Chin Tsai to claim victory in three sets at position two, tying the overall score at three points apiece. The deciding match came down to Emma Kamper for Utah versus Raq Caballero Chica for TCU; Kamper lost her first set but came back for a three-set win that clinched both her individual match and the overall team victory for Utah.
Utah will continue its Big 12 schedule by traveling to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor on April 4 before returning home for senior weekend hosting Arizona and Arizona State.
