The No. 26-ranked Utah Utes women’s tennis team lost 4-2 to the No. 29-ranked Arizona Wildcats on April 9 after initially taking the doubles point advantage.
This result brings Utah’s season record to 15 wins and 7 losses, with an 8-4 standing in Big 12 conference play. The match was held in Salt Lake City.
In doubles competition, Utah’s Sara Akid and Dylan Lolofie secured a win on court two with a score of 6-2. Hayley Roberts and Emma Valletta then clinched the doubles point for Utah by winning their match at the No.1 spot, finishing at 6-3. The third doubles match was left unfinished, with Kaila Barksdale and Emmie Moore leading over their Arizona opponents.
During singles play, Arizona took the lead by winning matches at the No.2 and No.5 spots before Akid tied up the overall score for Utah with a hard-fought victory (7-5, 7-6(3)) at No.1 singles. However, Arizona went on to secure wins at both the No.6 and No.4 positions to clinch the overall match victory before all matches could be completed.
The Utes will finish their regular season against Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday during a senior day celebration scheduled for noon. Following that, they will travel to Orlando, Florida for participation in the Big 12 tournament beginning Thursday, April 16.
