The University of Utah women’s tennis team defeated West Virginia 4-0 at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on March 12.
This win brings the Utes’ season record to 9-5 and highlights their strong performance in both singles and doubles matches.
In doubles play, Sara Akid and Emma Valletta won their match against Audrey Mountama and Julie Bousseau with a score of 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Emma Kamper and Emmie Moore secured the doubles point for Utah by defeating Lucia Tognoni and Laura Villanueva 6-2 at No. 2. The third doubles match was left unfinished, with Utah leading.
During singles competition, Valletta started off with a decisive victory over Tognoni, winning 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 position. Kamper followed with a win against Mountama (6-0, 6-2) at No. 1, while Moore clinched the overall victory for Utah by beating Bousseau (6-0, 6-3) on court three. Several other singles matches were left unfinished but showed Utah players in leading positions.
The Utes will next face Cincinnati at home on Saturday, March 14 before traveling to Lubbock to play Texas Tech on March 19.
