The No. 44-ranked Utah Utes women’s tennis team defeated the No. 29-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders 4-1 at the Mcleod Tennis Center on March 19.
This win brings Utah’s overall season record to 11-5 and their Big 12 conference record to 4-2, marking a five-match winning streak for the team.
Texas Tech started strong by securing the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. The match at court two between Utah’s Emma Kamper and Emmie Moore and Texas Tech’s Mariia Halhola and Elena Daskalova was tied at four games each before going unfinished as Texas Tech clinched the doubles advantage.
In singles play, Utah responded by winning four consecutive matches. Kaila Barksdale tied the overall score with a straight-set victory over Polina Sleptsova. Sara Akid then gave Utah a lead after defeating Kate Dmitrichenko in three sets. Emmie Moore extended Utah’s advantage by beating Mariia Hlahola, and Emma Kamper secured the overall win for Utah with a comeback victory against Hailey Murphy in three sets. The remaining singles matches were left unfinished.
Utah will continue its road trip to Boulder, Colorado, to face the Colorado Buffalos on March 21 before returning home for matches against Oklahoma State on March 26 and Kansas State on March 28.
