The Utah women’s basketball team is set to begin its final road trip of the regular season with a matchup against Colorado in Boulder. The game will take place at the CU Events Center on Tuesday, February 24, at 7:00 PM MT. Fans can follow the action on ESPN+ or tune in to 92.5FM for radio coverage.
Utah enters the game with a record of 17-11 overall and 8-8 in Big 12 play. In their last outing, the Utes fell to BYU 86-74, despite breaking a league record for most combined points scored in a single quarter with 63 total points in the fourth. Lani White led Utah with 20 points—her eighth game this season scoring at least that many. Maty Wilke added 13 points, while Reese Ross and Grace Foster contributed 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Utes return several key players from last season including Wilke, Samantha Crispe, Brooke Walker, and Ross. Lani White rejoined Utah this year after spending her junior season at Virginia Tech. Newcomers include transfer Kamryn Mafua and freshmen LA Sneed, Ella Todd, Avery Hjelmstad, and Evelina Otto.
Maty Wilke is currently Utah’s top returning player, averaging 10.6 points per game along with shooting percentages of 38.7% from the field and nearly 95% from the free throw line. She has also recorded over a thousand career points.
Lani White leads the team in scoring at an average of 15.6 points per game and has logged eight games this season with at least twenty points. She holds team highs in field goals made (149) and is second on the squad for three-pointers made (59). Earlier this season she posted back-to-back games with more than twenty points and five or more three-pointers made, including a perfect seven-for-seven performance from beyond the arc against Northwestern.
Head coach Gavin Petersen is in his second season as head coach of Utah after being promoted four games into last season. “He was named the head coach of the Utah women’s basketball team on Nov. 19, 2024, just four games into the 2024-25 season.” Petersen has accumulated a career record of 36-19 and led Utah to a notable victory over No.3 Notre Dame earlier this season: “Petersen became the fastest coach in program history to get a Top-10 victory when he led the Utes to a 78-67 win over No.3 NotreDame (11/30/24).” He brings more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience to his role.
Colorado comes into Tuesday’s contest holding a record of 20-8 overall and an 11-5 mark in conference play under head coach JR Payne’s guidance during her tenth year leading the program. The Buffaloes recently secured a win over Texas Tech and are averaging just under seventy points per game while allowing about sixty-one.
Three Colorado players are currently averaging double figures: Desiree Wooten (12.6), Jade Masogayo (12.1), and Zyanna Walker (11.2). Wooten leads both in scoring average and efficiency from long range.
Historically, Utah leads Colorado by one game all-time (23-22) but lost their last meeting in Boulder during December last year.
Other notes include:
• The Utes are ranked No.58 nationally according to Net Rankings.
• They have outrebounded opponents across their past five contests.
• Lani White has reached double-digit scoring in fourteen out of her last sixteen games.
• This marks Utah’s fourth straight twenty-win season as well as its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
• Utah ranks within the national top forty for assists per game (No.43), defensive rebounds per game (No.29), three-point attempts per game (No.24), and three-pointers made per game (No.18).
Following Tuesday’s matchup against Colorado, Utah will conclude its regular-season schedule at home versus Arizona on February 27—a senior night honoring Lani White, Maty Wilke, Sam Crispe, and Alyssa Blanck.
