The University of Utah softball team will host the No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowgirls for a three-game series at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City, beginning Friday, March 27 and running through Sunday, March 29.
This matchup marks Utah’s first home league series after starting Big 12 play with a strong 4-2 record on the road. The Utes have shown impressive form at home in the current season, averaging 12 runs per game and batting .454 across five games. Their most recent outing saw them secure a dominant 13-0 victory over Weber State.
Mia Gomez has been a standout performer for Utah, becoming the only freshman nationally to reach base in every game played this season—a streak that matches the program’s record of consecutive games reaching base safely. The team’s pitching staff is also among the best in both conference and national rankings, boasting an ERA of 2.16—second-best in the Big 12—and recording their eleventh shutout of the year against Weber State.
Oklahoma State arrives with several ranked wins this season, including victories over Georgia, Texas A&M, UCLA and Nebraska. All-American pitcher Ruby Meylan leads their rotation with a team-best ERA of 2.48 and ranks among Division I leaders in strikeouts.
Utah continues to collect individual accolades as well; Danika Wilson recently earned her second Freshman of the Week honor from the Big 12 Conference while Shelbee Jones was named Pitcher of the Week last week. Jones also threw her first no-hitter earlier this month against Abilene Christian.
The upcoming series provides an opportunity for both teams to solidify their standings within conference play as they approach key stages of their seasons.
