The Utah Utes men’s tennis team will play against #66 Texas Tech at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City on Sunday, March 29.

This match is significant for both teams as they continue their Big 12 Conference campaigns. Utah enters with a record of 4-13 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while Texas Tech holds an 11-7 overall record and is 1-2 in the Big 12.

Texas Tech finished last season with a balanced record of 12-12 and went 2-8 in conference matches. The Red Raiders return fifth-year player Sebastian Abboud, who recorded a singles mark of 15-7 and was also successful in doubles matches last year.

Utah’s roster features returning seniors Max Relic and Dante Teramo, along with junior Emmett Potter and sophomore Charles Frey. The team has added two transfers—Lorenzo Esquici and Simeon Terziev—and three freshmen: AJ Deem, Oliver Mesicek, and Balthazar Huss. Newcomer Simeon Terziev has started strong this season with a singles record of seven wins and two losses, remaining undefeated when playing at the No.5 spot.

In their most recent match, Utah lost to #26 Arizona State by a score of four to two after initially clinching the doubles point. Dante Teramo secured a singles win for Utah before Arizona State claimed victory by winning close three-set matches.

Head coach Roeland Brateanu returns for his twelfth season leading the program. Brateanu guided Utah to its first Pac-12 Regular Season Title during the historic 2022–2023 campaign after an undefeated regular season (18–0) in 2021 that concluded with a No.50 national ranking according to Oracle/ITA rankings. His current coaching record at Utah stands at 187 wins and 119 losses.

Following Sunday’s home contest against Texas Tech, the Utes will travel to Waco for an away match versus #8 Baylor on Thursday, April 2nd before facing TCU later that week.
