Utah Baseball will host the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights for a three-game series beginning April 24 at America First Ballpark in Salt Lake City.
The matchup marks the first meeting between Utah and UCF since February 2004, with Utah trailing the all-time series 1-2. The games are scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Utah enters the weekend with a record of 21-15 overall and a conference record of 9-9, while UCF stands at 22-15 overall and an 11-7 conference mark. The Utes recently secured a win against UVU, scoring a season-high with two six-run innings and achieving their seventh game this season with more than fifteen hits. Every member of Utah’s starting lineup recorded at least one hit during that game, contributing to a total of seventeen hits. The team also tallied twelve two-out RBIs, their highest in any game this season.
Head coach Gary Henderson’s team is coming off its first Big 12 Conference sweep after defeating Texas Tech over three games by an aggregate score of 28-8. Texas Tech had entered the series leading the Big 12 in batting average (.355) and runs per game (10), but was held by Utah’s pitching staff to just .271 hitting over the weekend and under four runs in each contest.
Freshman Cal Miller was named Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week after batting .400 against Texas Tech, including two home runs. Three Utah players—Jake Long (.379), Cameron Gurney (.376), and Jet Gilliam (.369)—rank among the top ten batting averages in the league this season. At home, Gurney is hitting .476 while Long holds a .435 average; as a team, Utah is batting .348 on its home field.
