Utah Baseball will open its Big 12 Conference schedule against Arizona with a three-game series starting March 13 at America First Ballpark in Salt Lake City.
The matchup marks Utah’s first league contest on Charlie Monfort Field at the new ballpark. The Utes, currently holding a 9-5 record, recently swept Grand Canyon University in four games and achieved three consecutive shutout victories for the first time since at least 1987. Over their last 41 innings, Utah has allowed only two runs.
Cameron Gurney has been a key player for Utah this season, leading the team in runs batted in (16), batting average (.360), and on-base percentage (.508). Gurney has also maintained a .991 fielding percentage with just one error. Jake Long enters the series with a nine-game hitting streak and contributed three hits in Sunday’s game against Grand Canyon University, scoring after each at-bat. Daniel Arambula hit .259 during that series and helped turn three double plays from third base. As a sophomore transfer from San Diego State, Arambula previously ranked second on his former team in both batting average and RBIs.
Colter McAnelly is set to start Friday’s game for Utah after pitching six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts last week. He was relieved by Dillon Fine and Ian Culver to complete the shutout win.
Fans attending the games can park for free in designated lots or use public transportation with a valid game ticket. Gates open one hour before first pitch, and promotional giveaways are planned throughout the weekend, including food vouchers on Friday and special hats on Saturday. After Sunday’s game, children will be invited onto the field to run the bases.
