The University of Utah softball team secured a decisive 15-0 victory over the No. 21/22 Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. This result marks Utah’s largest margin of victory against a ranked opponent in program history.

Shonty Passi led the offense with two home runs and a career-high five RBIs. The Utes’ scoring began in the second inning when Reese Lee hit a double that brought in two runs, followed by Kennedy Proctor’s double for two more. Kayla Lyon added two RBIs with a single, and Passi capped the nine-run inning with a three-run homer.

Utah continued to build its lead in subsequent innings. Mia Gomez contributed with a sacrifice fly and later hit a home run to center field in the fourth inning. Passi recorded her second home run of the day with a solo shot in the fifth.

Pitcher Hailey Maestretti delivered her fourth shutout of the season, allowing only one hit while striking out two batters early and working through lead-off baserunners in three different innings. She improved her record to 7-1 and lowered her season ERA to 1.48.

The Utes are now on their first 10-game winning streak since 2023, holding an overall record of 20-5 and standing at 2-0 in Big 12 conference play.

The teams will meet again Sunday as Utah aims for a series sweep against Arizona State, with first pitch scheduled for noon MST (1 p.m. MDT).
