The University of Utah softball team achieved a decisive 15-0 victory over Utah Tech on Friday at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah. The Utes’ offense was led by Danika Wilson, Shonty Passi, and Cian Noli, each contributing three runs batted in. This win marks the team’s fourth consecutive victory and brings their season record to 14-5.
Utah began scoring early in the first inning after loading the bases. Kayla Lyon drove in the first run with a fielder’s choice before Wilson hit a three-run home run to right field. Passi followed with her first home run of the year, giving Utah a 5-0 lead after one inning.
In the second inning, Passi walked with the bases loaded and Noli added two more runs with a single. The third inning saw another surge from Utah, including an RBI double from Lyon and sacrifice flies by Jolie Mayfield and Hailee White, resulting in six more runs.
Kate Blunt contributed a solo home run in the fifth inning for her first collegiate homer. Rio Mendez also recorded her first career hit during that frame.
The 15 runs scored are the most by Utah since March 24, 2019, when they tallied 17 against Arizona State.
Pitchers Shelbee Jones and Anna Reimers combined for a five-hit shutout. Jones pitched three scoreless innings to earn her fifth win of the season, while Reimers closed out the game with two innings of one-hit relief.
Utah is scheduled to play Southern Utah at 10 a.m., followed by a matchup against Utah State at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
