The University of Utah softball team lost to the No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowgirls by a score of 4-2 in Big 12 Conference play on March 29 at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City.
This result puts Utah’s overall record at 25-11 and their conference record at 4-5. The game was closely contested, with both teams scoring early. Oklahoma State took the lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly from Audrey Schneidmiller, while Utah answered with a solo home run by Cian Noli.
Oklahoma State regained the lead in the third inning after three consecutive singles, capped off by Karli Godwin driving in Tia Warsop. In the fourth inning, Payton Crank hit a home run for Utah to tie the score at two runs each. Pitchers Hailey Maestretti and Ruby Meylan kept both offenses quiet through the fifth inning as they pitched for their third straight day.
The Cowgirls broke the deadlock in the sixth inning with an RBI double from Lexi McDonald and extended their advantage when Tia Warsop drew a bases-loaded walk. Meylan held onto this lead over the final two innings despite Utah bringing the tying run to plate late but failing to capitalize.
Utah will next face UCF Knights starting Thursday, with game one scheduled for a 4 p.m. MDT first pitch.
