The University of Utah softball team lost 9-1 to the No. 25 UCF Knights on April 3 in a Big 12 Conference game at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Florida.

This result brings Utah’s season record to 25 wins and 13 losses, with a conference record of four wins and seven losses.

Utah scored first in the opening inning after Mia Gomez singled and later crossed home plate on a hit by Cian Noli. However, UCF quickly responded with a three-run home run from Sierra Humphreys in their half of the first inning, taking the lead. The Knights continued their momentum with additional three-run rallies in both the second and third innings, ultimately building an eight-run advantage that remained for the rest of the game.

Gomez was a highlight for Utah by reaching base during all three of her plate appearances. She had singles in both the first and second innings and drew a walk in the fifth, raising her season batting average to .439. Other Utah players contributing hits included Kayla Lyon, Payton Crank, and Noli. Danika Wilson and Shonty Passi each earned walks as well; Wilson’s walk extended her current on-base streak to 22 games.

Looking ahead, Utah will play UCF again on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time.
