The University of Utah softball team lost to the No. 25 ranked UCF Knights by a score of 17-0 on Thursday afternoon, April 2, in a Big 12 Conference matchup at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando.

This result puts Utah’s overall record at 25 wins and 12 losses, with a conference record of four wins and six losses.

UCF took an early lead in the first inning after scoring three runs through a combination of a home run, walk, single, error, and an RBI double. The Knights then added seven more runs in the second inning with two additional home runs. Their lead continued to grow as they scored four times in the third inning and three more times in the fourth.

Utah managed hits from Danika Wilson, Cian Noli, Hailee White, while Kennedy Proctor reached base on a walk. Wilson extended her streak of consecutive games reaching base to twenty-one straight contests with her first-inning single.

Mia Gomez’s program-record streak of thirty-six straight games reaching base came to an end during this match. Gomez had previously broken the school record for consecutive games getting on base on March 27 when she reached thirty-four straight games and was also noted as being the only freshman nationally to start her career by safely reaching base in each of her team’s first thirty-six contests.

The teams are scheduled for another game on Friday at 4 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time.
