The University of Utah softball team defeated Abilene Christian University twice on March 11, with pitcher Shelbee Jones throwing the program’s 32nd no-hitter and Mia Gomez driving in seven runs. The Utes won the first game 13-3 and followed with a 13-0 shutout at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City.

The doubleheader victory extended Utah’s winning streak to 13 games, tying a program record set in 1997. The team’s overall record now stands at 23-5.

In the first game, Utah scored three runs in the second inning after singles from Shonty Passi and Payton Crank. Additional runs came from a bases-loaded walk to Gomez and a sacrifice fly by Kennedy Proctor. The Utes added another run in the third before erupting for nine runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Danika Wilson’s three-run home run. Hailey Maestretti pitched all five innings for Utah, allowing three runs and improving her season record to 8-1.

During the second game, Jones retired every batter through the first three innings and allowed only one baserunner—a two-out walk—in the fourth. She finished with nine strikeouts, including one for the final out of the game. This marks Utah’s first no-hitter since Sarah Ladd’s perfect game against Utah Tech on March 3, 2024. Offensively, Izzy Cruz and Hailee White contributed RBI singles early on, while Gomez hit a two-run homer that extended her on-base streak to 28 games.

The teams are scheduled to play again on Thursday at noon.
