Utah seniors Makenna Smith and Ashley Glynn were recognized on March 11 for their performances in the Red Rocks’ recent tri-meet, earning Big 12 weekly awards. Smith was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the fourth time in her career and first time in 2025, while Glynn received Specialist of the Week honors for the first time.
The recognition comes after both athletes contributed to Utah’s second-highest team score of the season during their final home meet at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Smith began her night with a vault score of 9.85, followed by a season-high bar routine that earned her a 9.925 as leadoff. Her floor performance tied her career high with a score of 9.975.
Smith is currently tied for 14th nationally on vault and tied for 21st on floor, while also ranking second in the Big 12 on both events and seventh in conference standings on bars. Glynn scored back-to-back marks of 9.90 on vault and bars, with her bar appearance being her first this season. She is tied for 19th nationally on vault and ranks fourth in the Big 12.
Both seniors played key roles in Utah achieving consecutive team event scores of 49.500 on vault and beam, with Smith also contributing to another team score of 49.500 on floor.
Looking ahead, Smith, Glynn, and the No. 12 Red Rocks will compete against No. 5 UCLA Bruins at Pauley Pavilion in their final regular season meet scheduled for Saturday, March 14.
