The Utah Utes men’s tennis team will travel to Texas to compete against ninth-ranked Baylor on April 2 and fifth-ranked TCU on April 4, according to a March 31 announcement. The matches are scheduled for the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco and the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.
These matchups are significant as Utah aims to build momentum after their recent victory over #66 ranked Texas Tech, where they secured their first ranked win of the season by clinching doubles points and winning key singles spots. The team currently holds a record of 5-13 overall and is looking for strong performances against two top-ten opponents.
Baylor enters the contest with a current record of 16-7 this season, following a successful previous year with a 23-11 overall mark. Senior Zsombor Velcz returns for Baylor after posting notable singles and doubles records last year. TCU, meanwhile, stands at 15-5 this season after finishing last year with an impressive 27-4 record and going undefeated in conference play. Junior Julian Alonso is among TCU’s returning players.
For Utah, senior players Max Relic and Dante Teramo return alongside junior Emmett Potter and sophomore Charles Frey. The squad has added transfers Lorenzo Esquici and Simeon Terziev as well as freshmen AJ Deem, Oliver Mesicek, and Balthazar Huss. Notably, transfer Simeon Terziev has started his first season strongly with a 7-2 singles record while remaining undefeated at the No. 5 spot.
Head coach Roeland Brateanu leads Utah into these contests during his twelfth season at the helm. Brateanu previously guided the program to its first Pac-12 Regular Season Title in the historic 2022-2023 campaign after an unbeaten run in conference play during the prior year.
Following their trip to Texas, Utah will return home for matches against Idaho on April 10th and Big 12 rival BYU on April 11th.
