The Utah Utes men’s tennis team will begin its Big 12 conference schedule at home, hosting Oklahoma State on March 12 and Arizona on March 14, according to a March 10 announcement.
These matches mark the start of Utah’s conference campaign for the season. The Utes currently hold a record of 4-9 overall. Both matches will take place at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City, with Oklahoma State entering the contest at 12-4 and Arizona at 11-3 this season.
Oklahoma State is coming off a previous season where it finished with a 10-15 overall record and went 1-6 in conference play. Senior Alesso Basile returns for the Cowboys after posting a singles record of 6-11 last year. Arizona, meanwhile, had a strong showing last season with a 26-5 overall record and was led by senior Jay Friend, who achieved 34 singles victories and finished ranked No. 9 nationally in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Utah’s roster features returning seniors Max Relic and Dante Teramo, as well as junior Emmett Potter and sophomore Charles Frey. The team has added two transfers—Lorenzo Esquici and Simeon Terziev—and three freshmen: AJ Deem, Oliver Mesicek, and Balthazar Huss. Terziev has made an immediate impact since joining Utah, compiling a 7-1 singles record and currently riding a seven-match winning streak after his latest victory against Montana State.
In their most recent outing, Utah swept Montana State with a decisive 7-0 win, securing both doubles points and all singles matches.
Head coach Roeland Brateanu returns for his twelfth season leading the program. Brateanu guided Utah to its first Pac-12 Regular Season Title during the historic 2022-2023 campaign and previously led the team to an undefeated regular season in 2021. He holds an overall coaching record of 187 wins to 115 losses at Utah.
Following these home matches, Utah will travel to face UCF on March 21.
