The Utah Utes men’s tennis team is set to play Montana State at home in Salt Lake City on Saturday, March 7. The match will take place at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center and is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT.
Utah currently holds a 3-9 record this season, while Montana State comes into the match with a 3-6 record. Last season, Montana State finished with a 4-19 overall record and went 2-6 in conference matches. Junior Andre Stewart returns for the Bobcats after recording a singles record of 7-16 last year, including three wins in Big Sky play.
The Utes’ roster includes returning seniors Max Relic and Dante Teramo, as well as junior Emmett Potter and sophomore Charles Frey. The team has added five newcomers: transfers Lorenzo Esquici and Simeon Terziev, along with freshmen AJ Deem, Oliver Mesicek, and Balthazar Huss.
Sophomore transfer Simeon Terziev has had an impressive start to his first season with Utah, posting a 6-1 singles record and currently riding a six-match winning streak following his recent win against Old Dominion.
In their most recent match, Utah lost to UNLV by a score of 4-2 in Las Vegas. UNLV secured the doubles point early in the contest before clinching victory by winning four singles matches; Utah earned wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles positions.
Head coach Roeland Brateanu is leading the Utes for his twelfth season. Brateanu guided Utah to its first Pac-12 Regular Season Title during the 2022–2023 campaign and previously led the program to an undefeated regular season (18-0) in 2021, finishing ranked No. 50 nationally by Oracle/ITA. His current coaching record at Utah stands at 186 wins and 115 losses.
After facing Montana State, Utah will begin Big 12 conference play at home against Oklahoma State on March 12.
