The Utah men’s tennis team was defeated by Grand Canyon University with a score of 5-2 in Las Vegas. The match began with doubles play, where Grand Canyon secured the opening point after winning at both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At the top spot, Utah’s Dante Teramo and Balthazar Huss were trailing 4-5 against Daniel Jankoski and Brice Patoux when their match was left unfinished.
In singles competition, Emmett Potter gave Utah its first win by defeating Daniel Jankoski 6-4, 6-4. Simeon Terziev followed with a victory over Andreas Loizas, tying the overall match at 2-2 after his 6-4, 6-3 result. Grand Canyon regained momentum with a win at the No. 5 position.
Lorenzo Esquici pushed his opponent Diordan Macababbad to three sets on court four but ultimately lost after taking the first set. On court one, Dante Teramo also forced a third set against Tristan Berard; however, Berard secured the win for Grand Canyon.
At the No. 6 spot, AJ Deem battled Charlie Pade through three sets but fell short in a close contest that ended with a tiebreaker in favor of Grand Canyon.
Utah’s season record now stands at 3-8 overall.
The Utes will continue competing in Las Vegas as they face UNLV on March 1 before returning to Salt Lake City for a match against Montana State on March 7.
