The University of Utah men’s lacrosse team secured a 17-10 victory over Dartmouth at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday. The Utes improved their season record to 4-2, while Dartmouth fell to 3-2.
Utah built an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 4-2. The team extended its advantage in the second quarter, scoring six goals for a halftime score of 10-6. In the third quarter, Utah outscored Dartmouth 5-2, including an 8-2 run that created a decisive gap between the teams.
Utah held a significant edge in shots (48 to 27) and shots on goal (31 to 14). Defensively, the Utes set a program record with 21 caused turnovers and collected 43 ground balls. They also forced six failed clearances by Dartmouth and prevented them from scoring on five extra-man opportunities.
In faceoffs, Utah won 18 of 30 attempts, contributing to their time-of-possession advantage. The match was physical throughout, with both teams accumulating a total of twelve penalties.
Zachary White led Utah’s offense with five goals and two assists for a career-high seven points. He also recorded four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Ryan Stines matched White’s five goals and added one assist, converting nine of his twelve shots on target. Will Overly contributed his first hat trick of the season as part of six different Utes who scored during the game.
On defense, Nikko DiPonio registered four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Mikey Crane added five ground balls and one caused turnover. Thirteen different Utah players recorded at least one caused turnover; DiPonio, Crane, White, and Marco Pascarella each had multiple.
Faceoff specialists Tyler Kloeckl (12-of-20) and Bryce Madden (6-of-9) combined for most of Utah’s wins in the circle. Goalkeeper Colin Lenskold played most of the game and made four saves.
