The University of Utah men’s golf team secured its second straight Schenkel Invitational championship on March 15, finishing the tournament at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia, with a total score of 21-under-par 843. This marks the team’s first tournament win of the 2025-26 season and their third top-three finish overall.
The victory is significant for Utah as it comes after what head coach Garrett Clegg described as a challenging spring. “This was huge for our team to get this win,” said Clegg. “We haven’t been at our best this spring, and for us to come out on top is a great feeling. It will help build confidence for our team moving forward through the rest of the season.”
Senior Brandon Robison led the Utes with strong performances in the first two rounds, shooting a bogey-free 5-under 67 and a 7-under 65 before finishing with a 3-over 75 in round three. Robison tied for fifth place individually with a total score of nine-under-par over three days. Junior Sergio Jimenez also contributed significantly, tying for twelfth after carding back-to-back rounds of five-under-par and finishing six-under overall.
Davis Johnson delivered his career-best round during day two with an eight-under-par 64, helping Utah maintain its lead heading into the final day. Jack Jerge made notable progress in the third round by shooting four-under-par and climbing thirty-seven spots on the leaderboard to tie for thirty-seventh place.
Coach Clegg praised his players’ efforts throughout the tournament: “Round two was an incredible round,” he said. “Davis shot his lowest score in his time at the U and Brandon played another incredible round going the first two days (36 holes) without a bogey. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a player play 36 holes bogey free. Sergio played great the first two days as well with his back-to-back 67s. In day three, Jack’s 68 was huge for us. This was overall a great team win.” He added that while there is still room for improvement, “this win will hopefully insert a large amount of confidence in our team moving forward.”
Looking ahead, Utah will have ten days off before competing at The Goodwin tournament hosted by Stanford University from March 26-28.
