The University of Utah men’s golf team will compete in The Goodwin tournament at the Stanford Golf Course from March 26 to March 28, according to a March 25 announcement. The event marks the team’s return to Northern California after recently participating in Cal’s Desimone Invitational.
The tournament is significant as it follows Utah’s strong performance at the Schenkel Invitational in Georgia, where they claimed their first tournament title of the season. This victory was also their third top-three finish during the current competitive year, providing momentum as they enter The Goodwin.
Senior Brandon Robison led Utah at the Schenkel Invitational with consistent play, finishing tied for fifth place and completing three rounds at nine-under par. Robison had previously finished tied for seventh at the Desimone Invitational. Junior Sergio Jimenez and senior Davis Johnson also contributed notable performances in Georgia, with Jimenez recording back-to-back five-under rounds and Johnson achieving a career-best eight-under round on day two. Junior Jack Jerge delivered Utah’s best final-round score with a four-under effort.
Junior Gabriel Palacios, last year’s individual champion at The Goodwin, is expected to be an important player for Utah despite not having his best outing in Georgia. Head coach Garrett Clegg said, “Last week in Georgia was a huge confidence boost for our team. We are excited to get to Stanford where each of our players have competed and had different levels of success. Looking forward to a great trip.”
Utah will be one of thirty teams competing in this year’s field alongside schools such as Stanford, Oregon, BYU, UCLA, New Mexico, and Georgia Tech. The Utes’ lineup includes Robison, Jimenez, Johnson, Jerge, and Palacios.
The three-day event will consist of 54 holes played over three rounds starting Thursday and concluding Saturday.
