Utah Golf will compete in the Schenkel Invitational from March 13 to 15 at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia, following a 12th place finish at the Desimone tournament earlier this week.
The team is looking to improve after scoring a combined 6-over par across three rounds in Northern California. Senior Brandon Robison, who tied for seventh at the Desimone with an 8-under score over two days, is expected to play a key role for Utah as they aim to defend their title from last season.
Four of Utah’s starting five players—Robison, Sergio Jimenez, Davis Johnson, and Gabriel Palacios—were part of last year’s Schenkel Invitational winning team. The lineup also includes Jack Jerge and individual competitor Kade McDonough. The tournament marks Utah’s second appearance at the event, which is now in its 46th year and named after hall of fame sports broadcaster Chris Schenkel.
Head coach Garrett Clegg said about moving past the team’s recent performance: “We are excited to get to Georgia to end our week. This is a quick turn around and hopefully we will be able to bounce back. Our practice round on Thursday will be important– we need to be ready for the challenge of changing grasses to Bermuda in Georgia. Despite that challenge, the Schenkel was a great tournament for us last year and we are returning four of the five players that competed for our title last season. The boys are excited to be back on a familiar course where they know they’ve had success before.”
The Schenkel Invitational features 15 teams including Notre Dame, Army, Georgia Southern, Augusta, Indiana, Maryland, Miami University, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Marquette, Northern Illinois, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Yale. The competition consists of three rounds played over three days.
