The University of Utah men’s lacrosse team won against the Mercer Bears with a score of 24-14 at Five Star Stadium on April 4. The victory marks Utah’s second consecutive win in Atlantic Sun Conference play, bringing their record to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
This game highlights Utah’s strong offensive performance, as twelve different players scored and fourteen recorded at least one point. The Utes have now scored over twenty goals in back-to-back games and have improved to a record of 34-4 against ASUN opponents during head coach Andrew McMinn’s five seasons.
Utah accumulated thirty-four points, tying for the eleventh-most in program history, while their twenty-four goals tied for fifth-most in a single game. Three of the top five highest-scoring games for Utah have occurred this season. The Utes had more shots than Mercer (56 to 48) and led in shots on goal (33 to 28). Both teams were even on faceoffs with twenty each, and both failed only twice on clears.
Ryan Stines led all scorers with a career-high six goals. Zachary White contributed two goals and three assists, while Luke McNamara added four goals and an assist. Cade Faulkner finished with three goals and one assist. On defense, Marco Pascarella caused a turnover and assisted once; Nikko DiPonio collected five ground balls; Tyler Kloeckl won fifteen out of twenty-two faceoffs along with ten ground balls; Colin Lenskold made ten saves as goalkeeper.
The game saw momentum swings across quarters but was largely controlled by Utah after responding to Mercer’s opening goal with a quick run that established an early lead. Key plays included timely scoring from White, Stines, Faulkner, McNamara, DiMarzo, Sparks, Overly, Mullen—who netted his first goal as a Ute—and DelMauro who also scored his first collegiate goal late in the match.
Looking ahead, Utah continues its ASUN road schedule on April 11 against Jacksonville Dolphins at 10 a.m., with coverage available through ESPN+. Fans are encouraged to follow team updates via social media channels or the official mobile app.
