The University of Utah men’s lacrosse team defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles 16-7 at Valley Fields on March 11, extending its winning streak to four games.

This result is significant as it marks Utah’s fifth win in seven games this season and their sixth meeting with Marquette. The Utes are now 5-1 against the Golden Eagles, and this was the first time a game in the series was not decided by two goals or fewer.

After an even start that saw both teams tied at five goals each after the first 20 minutes, Utah scored nine consecutive goals between the second and fourth quarters while holding Marquette scoreless during that stretch. The Utes outscored Marquette 12-4 over the final three quarters, limiting them to their lowest scoring total of the season. Utah led in shots (43-33), shots on goal (26-18), caused turnovers (11), and faceoff wins (16 of 26). They were also perfect on clearance attempts, going 24-for-24.

Ryan Stines led Utah offensively with six points from four goals and two assists. Luke McNamara scored five goals, becoming the first Division I player this season to reach 30 total goals. Nathan Chalmers contributed a career-high four points with two goals and two assists. Defensively, Mikey Crane recorded three caused turnovers, while Nikko DiPonio had a career-high eleven ground balls along with a caused turnover and an assist. Tyler Kloeckl won fourteen of his twenty faceoff attempts, and Colin Lenskold made eleven saves in goal for his fifth win of the season.

The game featured strong performances across all quarters for Utah. Early pressure resulted in quick scores from Stines and McNamara. Key plays included highlight-reel goals from Zachary White and behind-the-back shots from Stines. In the third quarter, Utah shut out Marquette while adding six more goals to their tally.

Looking ahead, Utah will have a ten-day break before traveling east to face Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville. The next game is scheduled for a morning start with live coverage available on ACCNX.
