The Utah golf team took the lead at the Schenkel Invitational on March 14 after a standout second round, shooting a combined 20-under 268. Three Utah players finished under par for the day, with Brandon Robison and Sergio Jimenez holding the top two spots in the individual standings.
This development is significant as it positions Utah to potentially win the Schenkel Invitational for a second consecutive year, demonstrating consistent high-level performance in collegiate golf.
Robison delivered an impressive bogey-free round of 7-under 65, following his opening round of 67. He now leads the tournament individually with a two-day total of 12-under 132. “Robison started his day off hot, birdieing the first hole of Forest Heights Country Club’s Par 72 course for the second consecutive day,” according to the team’s report. Jimenez matched his first-round score with another 5-under 67, highlighted by four birdies on the last four holes of his front nine. He enters Sunday’s final round tied for second place at 10-under.
Davis Johnson posted a career-best round of 8-under 64, moving up 45 spots in the standings and tying for twelfth place overall. Gabriel Palacios contributed an even-par round to close out Utah’s scoring group.
Utah’s four-player scoring group excelled on Forest Heights’ front nine, combining for only two bogeys and finishing at a collective 15-under par with seventeen birdies among them. The team’s two-day total stands at 27-under par (549), which is sixteen strokes better than their score at this point last year when they ultimately won with a final tally of 22-under.
With one round remaining and a five-stroke lead over Georgia Southern, Utah will need to maintain its momentum to secure victory in this year’s tournament.
