The University of Utah men’s golf team finished in 12th place at the inaugural Desimone Invitational, which concluded on March 10 at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, California. The Utes posted a final round score of 6-over-par 294 to finish even through three rounds.
The tournament was significant for Utah as it marked their participation among a competitive field, with the team moving up one spot on the leaderboard during the final day. Brandon Robison led the Utes with a strong performance, shooting a 4-under-par 68 in the last round and finishing tied for seventh overall with an 8-under-par total of 208 over three rounds.
Other Utah players faced challenges during the final round. Jack Jerge shot a 1-over-par 73 to tie for 44th place at 2-over-par for the tournament. Sergio Jimenez finished tied for 56th after carding a third-round score of six-over-par and ending four-over overall. Gabriel Palacios tied for 60th with a five-over total, while Davis Johnson rounded out Utah’s lineup by tying for 77th at ten-over par.
Head coach Garrett Clegg commented on Robison’s performance: “Brandon is a great player who has been struggling this season so him having a good week is awesome. He still has some things to clean up—he’s good enough to compete for tournament wins. He had a good tournament, and it was nice to see him play good golf. Other than that, we have a lot of work to do because right now we are not performing at a high enough level.”
Arizona State won the event with an impressive score of thirty-nine under par, followed by Texas Christian University at nineteen under par and three teams—Southern Methodist University, Texas, and California—tied at eighteen under par.
Looking ahead, Utah will next compete in the Schenkel Invitational from March 13-15 in Statesboro, Georgia.
