The Utah men’s basketball team lost to the Colorado Buffaloes, 92-78, on Tuesday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah now holds a record of 10-20 overall and 2-15 in Big 12 conference play.
Utah started by overcoming an early deficit when Terrence Brown tied the game at 6-6 with a transition dunk following a steal. Brown continued to lead Utah’s offense and had nine points at halftime. However, Colorado took control for much of the first half, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from three-point range. This allowed Colorado to build a significant lead, entering halftime ahead 51-25.
After halftime, Utah responded with improved performance, narrowing what was once a 26-point deficit to an 11-point gap at one stage after outscoring Colorado 19-4 over just more than six minutes. The Utes kept pressing and cut the margin to single digits after Don McHenry converted a three-point play with under nine minutes left.
Utah finished the second half shooting nearly 74 percent from the field and over 85 percent from beyond the arc—their best three-point shooting half this season. Despite these efforts, they could not close the gap fully and lost their final home game of the season.
Brown led all scorers with 26 points along with four assists, two rebounds, and one steal. McHenry added 19 points—15 in the second half—plus four assists, one rebound, and one steal.
With this loss, Utah is confirmed as the No.16 seed for next week’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament in Kansas City. Their first game will be against the No.9 seed on March 10 at T-Mobile Center; Mike Monaco and Miles Simon will provide commentary on ESPN+ starting at 1 p.m MST / 2 p.m CST.
The team’s .857 three-point shooting percentage (6-of-7) in the second half ranks as fourth-best in program history for a single game period. The Utes also committed only one turnover during that stretch. It was also noted that Brown and McHenry have now combined for over forty points in thirteen games this season.
Utah concludes its regular season on Saturday against Baylor in Waco, Texas; tipoff is set for 3 p.m MST on Peacock.
