Utah Baseball will continue its seven-game homestand by facing Utah Valley on April 21 at America First Ballpark in Salt Lake City. The matchup marks the second of three non-conference meetings between the teams this season.
The game is set to begin at 6 p.m., with fans able to attend for free parking and access via public transit, including UTA buses and the TRAX Red Line. Gates open one hour before first pitch, and attendees are encouraged to review ballpark policies ahead of arrival.
Utah previously defeated Utah Valley earlier this season with a score of 15-9, highlighted by Cameron Gurney’s grand slam in the ninth inning and Jake Long’s three runs batted in, including a two-run home run. The Utes are coming off a notable three-game sweep against Texas Tech, their first as members of the Big 12 Conference. During that series, Utah outscored Texas Tech by a combined total of 28-8.
The pitching staff played a significant role in limiting Texas Tech’s offense—previously leading the Big 12 with a .355 batting average and averaging ten runs per game—to just .271 over the weekend series. Justin Abercrombie made two appearances from the bullpen without allowing any runs across 3.2 innings while striking out six batters without issuing any walks. Demitri Diamant also contributed with shutout relief during his appearance.
Freshman Cal Miller was recognized as Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week after batting .400 during the Texas Tech series, which included two home runs and strong performance with runners on base. Entering this week, Utah is noted as being the only team in its conference to have three players ranked among league leaders for batting average: Jake Long (.375), Jet Gilliam (.370), and Cameron Gurney (.368). Gurney has also maintained an impressive on-base percentage during his redshirt junior season.
Following Tuesday’s contest against Utah Valley, Utah will conclude its homestand by hosting UCF for a three-game conference series.
