Utah’s baseball team will resume Big 12 Conference play with a three-game series at Kansas beginning Thursday, April 2. The games are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m. Mountain Time, and Saturday at noon, all taking place at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kansas.
The matchup comes as Utah rides a three-game winning streak and has won four of its last six contests. The Utes recently defeated Utah Valley University in a midweek game, posting a 15-9 victory after breaking a ninth-inning tie with help from Cameron Gurney’s grand slam. Jake Long contributed two hits and three runs batted in during that game.
Utah and Kansas have each won six times across their previous twelve meetings. Last season, Kansas swept the Utes in Salt Lake City; however, Utah previously took two out of three games from the Jayhawks on the road in Lawrence back in 2015 when it was still part of the Pac-12 Conference.
In their most recent conference action, Utah secured a Big 12 series win over Kansas State at America First Ballpark. After dropping the opener, the Utes came back to win both weekend games with strong eighth-inning performances—scoring eleven runs combined over those innings. Jake Long made history by hitting for the cycle on Sunday; he went five-for-six with two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs scored—the first Utah player to achieve this since 2005.
Long currently holds a twenty-one-game hitting streak—the longest for any Utah player since 2011—and ranks among the top hitters in the conference alongside Gurney. Third baseman Daniel Arambula has also been productive this season but saw his seventeen-game hitting streak end during Tuesday’s contest against UVU.
Looking ahead to this week’s series against Kansas, Utah aims to build on its recent offensive momentum as key players continue their standout performances.
