The Utah baseball team secured a 9-4 victory over Creighton on Sunday in the final game of the Tony Gwynn Legacy Tournament at Tony Gwynn Stadium. A six-run fifth inning proved decisive for the Utes, who now hold a 4-2 record this season.

Luke Jacobs and Daniel Arambula each collected three hits, leading Utah’s offense. The bullpen, consisting of Ryan Kittredge, Dylan Gazaway, and Dillon Fine, contributed significantly by pitching a combined 8.1 innings in relief and allowing only one run on six hits.

Creighton took an early lead with three runs in the first inning. Utah responded in the second when Bradley Navarro doubled down the right field line to score Cameron Gurney. In the fourth inning, Jake Long drove in Arambula with an RBI single to narrow Creighton’s lead to 3-2.

Utah tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth when Jacobs singled to centerfield, bringing home Jet Gilliam. Gurney then gave Utah its first lead with an RBI single that allowed Jacobs to score. Arambula followed with another single to center, scoring Nevan Noonan. Two more runs came across on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice before Jacobs added his second RBI single of the day, extending Utah’s lead.

Creighton managed to add one run in the seventh inning. Utah responded with another run in the eighth via Long’s sacrifice fly, finalizing the score at 9-4.

Utah is scheduled to play next on Friday, February 27 against No. 21 UC Santa Barbara with a first pitch set for 5 p.m. MT.
