Utah’s baseball team is set to open its new home, Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark, with a four-game series against Grand Canyon University. The games will take place from March 6 to March 9 in Salt Lake City.

The $38 million ballpark project began construction in the summer of 2024 and will now host live games for the first time. Utah enters the series with a 5-5 record, while Grand Canyon holds a 6-7 record.

Fans attending the games can park for free in designated lots near the stadium. Public transportation options are also available, as game tickets provide free rides on UTA buses and TRAX lines that stop close to the ballpark. Gates will open one hour before each game begins.

Special promotions are planned for fans during opening weekend. On Friday, the first 500 attendees will receive a commemorative baseball featuring the logo for Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark. On Saturday, another group of 500 fans can claim a special pennant with the ballpark logo. Additionally, food truck vouchers will be given to the first 100 fans entering on both Friday and Saturday. All giveaway items can be collected at the marketing table behind home plate.

Sunday’s postgame activities include an opportunity for children to run the bases on the field.

Utah players have shown strong performances leading up to this series. Jake Long has maintained a five-game hitting streak and has driven in runs during each of those contests, including two games where he recorded three RBIs each.

Relief pitcher Dillon Fine contributed significantly in Monday’s win over Loyola Marymount University by pitching 3.1 scoreless innings and striking out four batters. His fastball reached up to 93.8 mph during that appearance.

First baseman Cameron Gurney leads Utah offensively this season with team highs in hits (12), RBIs (11), batting average (.333), and on-base percentage (.489). Defensively, he has made only one error so far.

Colter McAnelly is scheduled to make his first home start of the season on Friday night. The junior right-hander had an All-Big 12 season last year with 92 strikeouts, ranking fourth all-time at Utah for single-season strikeouts.

Reflecting on Monday’s game against LMU, Utah scored 11 runs in one inning—their highest single-inning total since April 14, 2017—helped by patient at-bats that resulted in walks or hit-by-pitches followed by timely hits from several players including Daniel Arambula and Cal Miller.

“The debut of Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark is finally here,” according to information provided by Utah Baseball staff.
