The University of Utah baseball team lost to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos with a score of 7-1 on Saturday evening at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in Santa Barbara, California. This result brings Utah’s season record to 4-4.

Jake Long was responsible for two of Utah’s three hits during the game. He reached base with an infield single in the seventh inning and later hit an RBI double to center field in the ninth, bringing home Cameron Gurney. Gurney also contributed with a single and two walks. Luke Jacobs got on base twice, once after being hit by a pitch in the first inning and again with a walk in the eighth.

UC Santa Barbara took control early, scoring four runs in the second inning through a combination of RBI singles and a two-run double from Cade Goldstein. The Gauchos extended their lead when Jonathan Mendez stole home in the third inning.

Utah pitcher Sammy Cova entered as a reliever in the fourth inning and managed to keep UCSB from scoring further through the sixth, retiring seven consecutive batters during that stretch. However, UCSB added two more runs in the seventh before Ian Culver finished out the game for Utah with two scoreless innings.

The teams are scheduled to play again on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Mountain Time.
