The University of Utah baseball team lost to the UCSB Gauchos 12-1 on Sunday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in Santa Barbara, California. This result puts Utah’s season record at 4-5.

Utah managed seven hits during the game. Luke Jacobs and Jake Long each contributed two hits. Jacobs singled in the first inning and later scored after Cameron Gurney walked and Long hit a two-out single. Gurney reached base three times with a single, a walk, and being hit by a pitch.

After Utah scored in the first inning, UCSB responded with a run in their half of the inning. The Gauchos took control with three runs in the fourth, including a home run by Nick Husovsky that brought in two runs. UCSB continued to add to their lead with one run each in the fifth and sixth innings before scoring six more runs in the eighth.

Justin Abercrombie started for Utah and pitched into the third inning before Ryan Kittredge came on in relief for three innings. Ian Lenius followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, while Anson McGorman finished the game by retiring all three batters he faced and striking out two.

Utah will play its next game against LMU on Monday at 2 p.m.
