The Utah baseball team secured a four-game sweep against Grand Canyon University with a 7-2 victory on March 9 at Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark.
The win marks continued strong performance for Utah, which saw contributions from both its offense and pitching staff. Seven players recorded at least one hit, including each of the top four batters in the lineup. Daniel Arambula led the team with three hits, scoring once and driving in another run. Cameron Gurney added a home run and four runs batted in, while Luke Jacobs went two-for-four with a double, two RBIs, a walk, and a run scored.
On the mound, eight pitchers combined to hold Grand Canyon to just two runs and six hits. Anson McGorman earned his first collegiate win after pitching a scoreless third inning. The bullpen was especially effective late in the game as Landon Salvesen, David Galindo, Sammy Cova, and Dillon Fine combined for four perfect innings to close out the contest.
Utah took an early lead in the first inning before Grand Canyon responded with two runs in the second. The Utes regained control in the third inning when Arambula singled and Gurney hit his second home run of the season. A three-run sixth inning helped Utah pull away further as Jacobs doubled to drive in Matt Flaharty and Arambula added an RBI single.
The Utes will remain at home for their next series as they begin Big 12 Conference play against Arizona starting Friday evening.
