Senior faceoff specialist Tyler Kloeckl was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week following Utah’s 20-14 victory over Mercer, according to an April 6 announcement from the league office.
Kloeckl’s recognition marks his first career conference weekly award. He had previously been named the 2026 Preseason Specialist of the Year and earned a spot on the All-ASUN First Team in 2025. Utah has now collected nine weekly awards from the ASUN this season, which is more than any other team in the conference.
During Utah’s game against Mercer, Kloeckl won 15 out of 22 faceoff attempts and led his team with ten ground balls. So far this season, he has achieved a faceoff win rate of 59 percent, ranking second in the ASUN and seventeenth nationally. In conference play specifically, he has won nearly seventy percent of his faceoffs. Additionally, Kloeckl averages over six ground balls per game, placing him third in the conference for that statistic.
Kloeckl holds a career faceoff win percentage of .527—the second highest in program history—and his total of 392 career faceoff wins also ranks second among all Utah Utes players.
Utah will next travel to Florida for a matchup against Jacksonville on Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m. Mountain Time. The game will be available live on ESPN+. Fans can follow updates through social media channels or by using Utah Athletics’ official mobile app.
