Trevor Lee, a public figure and political commentator, posted a series of tweets in late February 2026 addressing immigration policy and state benefits in Utah.
On February 22, Lee commented on the concept of “Heritage Americans,” stating, “Wrong take. ‘Heritage Americans’ isn’t about carving out special privileges or unequal laws it’s about acknowledging the multi-generational families who’ve built this nation and been shafted by endless wars, open borders, and job-killing trade deals. We’re not excluding”.
Two days later, on February 24, Lee criticized the controversy surrounding taxpayer-funded benefits for undocumented immigrants. He wrote, “It’s now controversial to stop giving taxpayer benefits to illegals. Come on Utah, we’re not California but it sure felt like it today. If you want taxpayer funded benefits to go to Amercian Citizens, dm me or reach out your state Rep and Senator to support HB88”.
Later that same day, Lee addressed concerns about House Bill 88 (HB88), which relates to restricting non-emergency public benefits for undocumented adults in Utah. In his post he stated: “Andrew, HB88 doesn’t say ‘don’t care for the needy’ it says don’t force Utah taxpayers to fund non-emergency benefits for adults here illegally. Jesus taught personal charity sell what you have and give to the poor (Matt 19:21), not render unto Caesar extra so Pilate can”.
These statements come as debate continues within Utah regarding legislation aimed at limiting access to certain public benefits based on citizenship status. The discussion around HB88 reflects broader national debates over immigration policy and social services funding.
