Born October 11: Hall of Fame NFL quarterback
Steve Young was born October 11, 1961, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Greenwich High School in Connecticut. He later played quarterback at Brigham Young University. He set many NCAA records there. He began his professional career in the USFL. In 1985, he joined the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He later moved to the San Francisco 49ers. Young became the starting quarterback in 1991. He won the NFL MVP award twice. He led the 49ers to a Super Bowl XXIX win. He was named Super Bowl MVP. He retired in 1999. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005. He has worked as a broadcaster and business leader since. Though raised mostly outside Utah, his connection to Salt Lake City is by birth and family. This week, Salt Lake City marks the birth of a quarterback who reached the highest levels of professional football.
