Shelbee Jones was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 17, sharing the honor with Meika Lauppe from Arizona State, according to an announcement by the University of Utah softball team.
This recognition highlights Jones’ recent performance, which included pitching a no-hitter against Abilene Christian. She held her opponents scoreless over five innings in a game that ended with a 13-0 victory for Utah. During this outing, Jones retired every batter in order through the first three innings and struck out all three batters in the second inning. The only baserunner she allowed was a two-out walk in the fourth inning before finishing strong with two more strikeouts in the fifth, bringing her total to nine for that game.
Over the week, Jones pitched a total of ten innings, gave up just one earned run, and recorded sixteen strikeouts. This award makes her the third Utah player to receive a conference weekly honor in 2026; Mia Gomez and Danika Wilson have both previously been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week. Jones is also noted as being the first Utah pitcher to win this award since Mariah Lopez did so in 2024.
Single-game tickets for all Utah Softball games during the current season are available online. Fans can also follow updates about the team on social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
The continued recognition of Utah players reflects their strong performances this season and suggests further achievements may be ahead.
