U.S. Senator Mike Lee from Utah has paid tribute to the state’s law enforcement officers during National Police Week by supporting two resolutions that acknowledge their service and dedication. The observance of National Police Week runs from May 11-17, 2025.
Senator Lee expressed his gratitude towards law enforcement personnel, stating, “The courageous men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and our communities.” He added, “In the face of outrageous attacks against these American heroes, we salute them, we thank them, and we pray for them.”
To honor National Police Week, badges from each of Utah’s police departments have been displayed. Senator Lee has co-sponsored two legislative measures aimed at recognizing the efforts of police officers. One resolution introduced on Tuesday acknowledges the sacrifices made by officers nationwide, particularly those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It also calls for enhanced support for their work and wellbeing. Another resolution passed unanimously with bipartisan backing encourages the observance of National Police Week.
There are approximately 800,000 law enforcement officers in the United States, including over 5,000 in Utah. These officers risk their lives daily to serve their communities. Since 2020, Utah’s police departments have achieved a reduction in violent crime rates faster than the national average. Despite this progress, increasing partisan hostility poses greater risks to officers’ safety. Over the last decade, more than 2,500 American law enforcement officers have died while serving, with assaults reaching a peak in 2023 when 79,000 officers were attacked.
These resolutions emphasize Congress’s commitment to supporting law enforcement officers as they continue to serve Americans.
