President J. Stuart Adams, Utah Senate President, used his social media platform to express gratitude and highlight key moments from the opening ceremony of the 2026 legislative session.
On January 20, 2026, Adams thanked educational leaders for their attendance at the event. He wrote, “Thank you to Utah’s Higher Education leaders for joining us for the Senate’s opening ceremony today. Their foresight and contributions are building the next generation of leaders. #utpol #utleg”.
The following day, he acknowledged various participants in the ceremony, including religious and military figures. On January 21, Adams posted: “I’m grateful for the many people that gave of their time and talents to be part of our opening day ceremony. Thank you to Elder @PatrickKearon of the @Ch_JesusChrist, Darin Hoover, Gold Star father of Staff Sergeant Taylor Hoover who was tragically killed in action during the”.
Later on January 21, Adams marked a significant national milestone while recognizing service members and their families. He stated: “As we celebrate 250 years of American liberty, we honor those who have faithfully and diligently defended our nation from the Revolutionary War to conflicts overseas. On the opening day of the 2026 legislative session, it was an honor to recognize Darin Hoover, a Gold Star”.
The term “Gold Star” refers to family members who have lost loved ones serving in U.S. military operations—a tradition dating back to World War I as a symbol of sacrifice and recognition by both government officials and communities across America.
Utah’s annual legislative session typically begins in January each year at the State Capitol in Salt Lake City with ceremonies attended by lawmakers, community leaders, educators, religious representatives and citizens from across the state.
