Mike Schultz, a Utah state legislator, used his Twitter account on April 15 and 16, 2026, to highlight Utah’s sustained economic performance and address recent developments at Utah Valley University.
On April 15, Schultz celebrated Utah’s recognition as the top state for economic outlook by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), writing: “Utah continues to lead the nation in economic outlook because of the hardworking Utahns who call our state home. I’m excited to be in D.C. to celebrate Utah being named the No. 1 state in the nation for Economic Outlook for the 19th year in a row by @ALEC_states. Behind this”.
Later that day, Schultz emphasized that this achievement was not an isolated event but rather a result of long-term dedication from Utah residents: “This ranking isn’t about one great season. Utahns who work hard, take risks, build businesses, raise families, and strengthen their”.
On April 16, Schultz addressed a decision related to commencement ceremonies at Utah Valley University (UVU), stating: “Commencement should be a time of celebration, focused on honoring the hard work and achievements of students and their families. We’re grateful to the students who spoke up and to UVU for listening and responding. This decision reflects what is ultimately best for the students”.
Utah has maintained its position as having the top economic outlook in national rankings for nearly two decades according to ALEC’s annual “Rich States, Poor States” report. The ranking evaluates states based on factors such as tax policy, labor regulations, and overall business climate.
Schultz’s comments also referenced recent events at UVU where student input influenced administrative decisions regarding commencement ceremonies.
